SJVPA Membership Types
Full Membership
Full Membership in SJVPA requires the following:
- A Doctorate in Psychology, or
- A license as a Psychologist* in the State of California, or
- A Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology.
*Licensed Educational Psychologists are accepted on the same basis as Licensed Psychologists.
Full members have all rights and privileges of membership, including the right to vote, to hold office, and to serve on the Board of Directors.
Associate Membership
Associate membership is open to any non-doctoral mental health professional. This membership level was created for professionals who are licensed as Marriage & Family Therapists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors, and other non-doctoral mental health professional who wish to become a member of SJVPA and secure the benefits including discounted CE registration prices, free CE's at bi-monthly meetings, and attendance at our annual banquet, to name just a few. Associate Members are able to become members of committees, but cannot vote in SJVPA elections.
Student Membership
Student membership is open to students enrolled in a formal study of psychology. Post-doctoral students enrolled in a post-doctoral program may enroll as student members. Student membership is presented at a lower rate of dues than full membership. The Student Representative to the Board of Directors is accorded a vote, but other student members do not vote, hold office, or serve on the Board of Directors.
First Year Post-Doctoral Membership
Individuals who have been granted a doctoral degree but who have not yet received full psychological licensure are eligible for one year of free membership. First year post-doctorate members can vote, hold office, and serve on the Board of Directors.
Honorary Membership
Honorary members are individuals designated by the Board of Directors for contributions or assistance to psychology or to SJVPA. Honorary membership does not require dues to be paid. Honorary members may not vote, hold office, or serve on the Board of Directors.
Life Membership (Emeritus)
Members who are 65 years or older, are retired, and have held membership in SJVPA for 15 years or longer are eligible for life membership. Life membership does not require dues to be paid. Life members may vote, hold office, or serve on the Board of Directors. Contact the Membership Officer at membership@sjvpa.org if you think this category of membership applies to you.
Retired Membership
Members who are 65 years or older and are retired are eligible for retired membership. Retired membership dues are half the amount of full membership.
