How to Reach the Avoidantly Attached With EFT Couple, Family & Individual Therapy: Withdrawer Reengagement

Dr.'s Paul and Nancy Aikin

EFT Certified Trainers, Supervisors, and Therapists

This workshop will focus on reaching the shut down, emotionally unavailable client. There are many clients with a cluster of symptoms and psychodynamics that are referred to as "withdrawers" in the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) model, as "anxious avoidant" in attachment theory and as "narcissists/schizoids" in the psychodynamic model. We will make connections between these models and will unfold for you how the EFT approach, a humanistic-experiential model, understands and works with these difficult to reach individuals in couple, family and individual psychotherapy. This workshop builds on "The Introduction to Emotionally Focused Therapy and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy" that we offered last spring but does not require having attended that workshop. We will show live demonstration of this work as well as video demonstration examples of it and encourage role plays as a means of helping you understand the process of reaching these clients. We will help you understand the process using both didactic and experiential methods.

6 CE CREDITS FOR MFT'S, LCSW'S & Psychologists will be offered by Aikin Associates Seminars through the California Psychological Association
